The celebration of the 75th Republic Day in Bengal took an unexpected turn in the Fatehpur area of Asansol, leading to heightened tension as two factions clashed over flag hoisting. The disputed area near a temple in Fatehpur, often a source of contention, became the focal point of a tense situation as one group attempted to host the tricolor on Republic Day. The party organizing the flag hoisting had invited former Trinamool Councilor Rohit Nonia as the chief guest.
However, before the event could commence, another group disrupted the proceedings, resulting in a four-hour standoff. While one faction insisted on flag hosting, the opposing side vehemently protested the program, transforming the area into a virtual police camp.
After concerted efforts by law enforcement, the situation was brought under control, allowing the hosting party to proceed with the ceremony in front of Rakhi Sen's house near the temple. The police maintained a presence in the area to prevent any resurgence of tensions, and Trinamool Councilor Rohit Nonia distributed blankets to the needy as a gesture of community support.
